A variety of procedures are available to remove unwanted fat deposits. In particular, low-risk, gentle procedures – so-called non-invasive methods – are attracting the attention of doctors and patients, who are increasingly looking for an alternative to surgery.
The so-called "cooling method" has established itself as the method of choice, a procedure in which the fat cells are "destroyed" by controlled cooling: CoolSculpting® by Zeltiq® / Cryolipo®.
CoolSculpting® by Zeltiq® is certainly the most successful device in the field of cryolipolysis; almost all studies worldwide have been carried out using this technology. The procedure developed by Harvard University is based on the local application of cold, which damages fatty tissue under the skin under computer control so that it is then broken down by the body for good. Its effectiveness has been proven in extensive studies. This method of non-invasive fat removal is the only one to have been FDA-approved (FDA = Food and Drug Administration, a division of the US Department of Health and Human Services) since 2010, which was granted due to its effectiveness, reliability and lack of side effects.
At the beginning, the treatment handpiece "sucks in" the tissue before it is cooled in a controlled manner. This process takes about 45-60 minutes per treatment area and is painless. Bring reading material, a tablet or your music and sit back...
Immediately after the treatment you can resume all your daily activities, there is nothing special to consider. Cryolipolysis not only leads to a reduction in fat, but also to a tightening of the subcutaneous tissue.
Depending on the extent of the fat deposits, it may make sense to accelerate the reduction process with other procedures such as lymphatic drainage (LPG endermologie®) or weight loss concepts.
The final result of the treatment can take 2-4 months in individual cases, but sometimes a result can be seen more quickly. The reduction can be compared to a bruise, which also takes days to weeks to disappear completely. This slow breakdown of the fatty tissue means that neither the lymphatic system nor the liver is excessively stressed. As the treatment handpiece applies the cold evenly to the tissue with computer precision, there can be no irregularities. The treated body area is always reduced homogeneously and without dents. On the contrary – the CoolSculpting® method is even ideal for "ironing out" dents after poor liposuction.

There are no known side effects worth mentioning. The treated areas may be reddened for a while and the tissue may feel a little numb in the days afterwards. Sometimes there is hardening under the skin. All these phenomena disappear on their own after a short time.
No other cold treatment like CoolSculpting® is almost constantly featured in the national and international press. Every magazine that reports on the cooling method against fat deposits mentions the CoolSculpting® by Zeltiq® device.
CoolSculpting® by Zeltiq® is currently the most efficient and best-known method for removing fat deposits by applying cold. Only this method guarantees the results documented by studies and various patents.
This treatment is called cryolipolysis or, colloquially, the "fat removal-with-cold method". Our CLINICS use various devices for this purpose. CoolSculpting® is the "Rolls Royce" of cryolipolysis and the best-researched procedure in the world, about which most of the studies have been published. Success is always guaranteed and visible.
Unfortunately, there are many "free riders" in this field. Often, untested cheap devices from Asia are used by beauticians, which have no effect. This does massive damage to the reputation of the cryolipolysis technology for fat removal, which is a great pity. We very often successfully treat patients with CoolSculpting® who have already undergone several treatments with cheap devices and finally see success with us.
Cryolipolysis was developed and patented by the company Zeltiq® as CoolSculpting®. There are now various equally efficient devices that achieve similarly good results. In addition to CoolSculpting® from Zeltiq®, we work with further developments that have combined the cooling method with the laser effect, called CoolSculpting®.
This combines the cold effect of Zeltiq® technology with the effect of LED laser light, which leads to significantly greater fat reduction and improved skin tightening. During the treatment, the tissue is not only cooled but also irradiated with LED laser light at the same time, which explains the even more efficient results. This new and innovative combination of two different, complementary procedures is the future of non-invasive cold treatment of fatty tissue and will soon replace existing procedures.
The principle of cryolipolysis is based on the observation that fat cells react sensitively to cold stimuli; this effect is used to "melt down" the unwanted fat deposits. A special treatment head precisely cools the area of fat to be treated and irradiates it with LED laser energy – the surrounding skin and muscle tissue is not damaged. The cooled fat cells change (solidify) as a result of the cooling process, which means that they are recognized as foreign bodies by the body's own healing processes and are then slowly broken down. The effect of the LED laser light intensifies the breakdown of the fatty tissue and tightens the skin at the same time. Once the fatty tissue has been broken down, it does not form again and the fat cells remain permanently destroyed.
At the beginning, the treatment applicator sucks in the tissue before it is cooled in a controlled manner. This process takes approximately one hour per treatment area and is painless. Cryolipolysis not only leads to a reduction in fat, but also to a tightening of the subcutaneous tissue, so that no further measures are usually necessary. However, the fat tissue reduction process can be supported by combining cryolipolysis with endermologie® and/or weight loss concepts. These procedures lead to even better and faster results.
The final result of the treatment can take 2-4 months, sometimes the result can be seen earlier. As a rule, it can be expected that around a third of the fat layer will be reduced in a single session. As the treatment head applies the cold and laser pulses evenly to the tissue, no irregularities can occur. The treated body area is always reduced homogeneously and without dents.
Occasionally, bruising or a temporary loss of sensation may occur in the treated areas and persist for a few days. Sports activities can be resumed immediately.
Cryolipolysis can actually always be used, but this method is not always the most appropriate. In the case of large fat deposits and many different areas to be treated, liposuction is currently still the better and cheaper method than freezing fat.
As a non-invasive procedure, the "fat removal-with-cold method" is very low-risk. Redness, swelling and occasionally bruising may occur after the treatment. More exceptionally, there may be temporary numbness, hardening of the tissue or tenderness in the areas where the fat was frozen. However, all side effects disappear within a few days.
Together with your doctor, you will define the areas to be treated. The Cryolipolysis device then draws in the tissue: you will feel a firm pulling and pressure sensation. This ensures that the cooling of the tissue is as effective as possible. Treating one zone takes about one hour; the total treatment time depends on your individual goals. We recommend treating all desired zones within a single session – based on our experience, this leads to better results and significantly higher patient satisfaction.
During the Cryolipolysis procedure, fat tissue is cooled under controlled conditions and destroyed, without damaging the skin or surrounding tissue. The dead fat cells are gradually eliminated by the body’s natural healing process. As the fat breaks down, fat deposits are reduced by 25–40%, and the subcutaneous tissue is tightened.
In the first few minutes of the cooling process, you will feel pressure and an intense cold sensation, which quickly subsides. Many patients read, work on a laptop, or take a short nap during this time.
Yes. Since this procedure is non-surgical, you can immediately return to your normal activities. Some patients may experience redness, mild bruising, swelling, tingling, or numbness in the treated area. These are temporary side effects that usually disappear within a few days. Most patients return to work right after the treatment.
Initial changes may appear as early as three weeks after treatment, but fat cells can continue to be eliminated by the body for up to four months post-procedure.
You do not need any pills or supplements, nor must you adopt a new diet or fitness routine. However, many patients feel motivated after Cryolipolysis to pay more attention to nutrition or to begin exercising, in order to maintain or enhance their newly defined contours. Based on our experience, combining Cryolipolysis with endermologie® and/or with weight loss programs leads to even better and faster results.
Cryolipolysis permanently eliminates the treated fat cells. As long as you maintain your weight through diet and exercise, the results will be long-lasting.
Each Cryolipolysis treatment typically leads to a noticeable reduction of fat in the treated area after just one session. Depending on individual goals and tissue response, one session may be sufficient, though two or more sessions might be needed.
There are many Cryolipolysis devices on the market, but their effectiveness can vary significantly. We prioritize patient safety, which is why we use only devices with FDA approval. Cheap, unregulated devices –often used by non-medical providers – are not recommended, as they can be ineffective and, if misused, may even cause injuries such as necrosis. At the Clinics of Dr. Linde, we use the two leading devices: CoolSculpting® and Cryolipo®.
Depending on the problem area and the amount of fat tissue, a single Cryolipolysis session is often sufficient to achieve the desired result. If a follow-up treatment is desired, we recommend scheduling it at least one month later, as the full effect of the fat freezing unfolds over several weeks. The fat reduction process can be further supported by exercise or lymphatic drainage.
