HIFU stands for "High Intense Focused Ultrasound". This procedure makes it possible to tighten the skin without surgery. Ultrasound waves are sent through the skin in such a way that they meet at a point a few millimetres below the skin. Heat is then generated there, which leads to tightening.
The principle is the same as when sunlight is centered with a magnifying glass and becomes so hot that a fire develops. The ingenious thing about the procedure is that the ultrasound waves penetrate the skin without irritating or even damaging it. The desired heating only occurs under the skin, which then leads to tightening. This means that everything can be done immediately after the treatment without having to take the skin into consideration.
It takes up to 3 months – sometimes even longer – for the results to become visible. The treatment can then be repeated if desired. This new treatment option of HIFU (also known as Ulthera™ or Ultherapy® ) represents a new chapter in aesthetic medicine, as such a tightening effect could previously only be achieved through surgery.
The combination of HIFU treatment with Radiesse is called Radiesse Supercharged.
