Liposuction is part of our daily routine. For you, it is not. Perhaps you have been thinking about certain areas of your body for years, perhaps you have been considering surgery for a long time – and perhaps you are looking forward to the change while also feeling nervous about the procedure.
We understand. That is why we want you to know what happens next and who will be there for you at every stage.
The first step is a personal and honest consultation. We take the time to understand your wishes and discuss the changes you would like to achieve through liposuction.
It is particularly important to us to establish realistic expectations. Liposuction can specifically reshape and harmonise body contours – but it cannot achieve every desired result. That is why at LIPOCLINIC we speak openly about what is appropriate and realistically achievable in your individual case – and equally about what is not.
Together, we look at the areas of your body that concern you and explain which areas are suitable for liposuction. You will learn what results you can expect, which surgical technique we recommend, how the procedure and recovery period work and what costs you can expect.
Our goal is not to promise you as much as possible, but to give you an honest basis for your decision. This means that even before the procedure, you will have a clear understanding of what liposuction can realistically achieve for your body and what kind of result is appropriate for you.
Afterwards, you do not have to make an immediate decision.
Perhaps you will go home and think of ten more questions the next morning. Then call us or write to us. And if you would prefer to speak with us again in person, you are welcome to come in for another consultation free of charge.
For us, one thing is essential: before your liposuction, all your questions should be answered.
A few days before your operation, we will contact you again. Are there any new questions? Is anything unclear? Have there been any changes to your health? Do you have all the information you need?
You will also receive detailed instructions tailored to your procedure.
For the liposuction procedure we usually perform under twilight sedation, there are individual instructions that need to be followed. You will receive these before your procedure and should follow them carefully. It is best to wear loose, comfortable clothing, as you will have a slightly bulkier dressing after the operation. If you are having liposuction on the lower legs, wide or open shoes are particularly practical.
And then it arrives: the day of your procedure.
When you arrive, you will be welcomed by your personal Lipo Assistant. She will accompany you throughout the procedure and calmly explain once again what will happen and what you need to keep in mind afterwards.
We review your medication and answer any final questions. We then carefully mark the areas to be treated while you are standing.
Then you can lie down.
We place an intravenous line through which you receive the medication for your twilight sedation. This puts you into a relaxed, drowsy state, while local anaesthesia ensures that the procedure itself is pain-free. You can still respond when spoken to, although you will usually sleep soundly.
While you relax and drift off, we get to work.
If necessary and possible, you turn onto your side or stomach yourself so that we can optimally reach the different treatment areas. The fatty tissue is carefully and evenly removed. Depending on your individual situation, we use Smooth Lipo® or water-assisted liposuction (WAL), either on their own or combined with additional skin-tightening procedures such as Renuvion and/or Endolaser.
Your stay with us usually lasts around three hours in total – from your arrival and preparation to the procedure itself, infiltration, liposuction, application of the dressing and your time in the recovery area afterwards, until you feel well enough to go home.
Immediately after the operation, you will usually be awake and mobile again quite quickly. You can and are encouraged to stand up directly after the procedure. We then apply the appropriate dressing while you are standing.
Afterwards, you can walk independently to our recovery or waiting area. If you feel well and everything is medically fine, your accompanying person can collect you after the required observation period and take you home.
Of course, you must not drive yourself after twilight sedation.
The next day, a little normality already begins to return.
Following our individual instructions, you can remove the larger dressing at home and take a shower. Occasionally, a small amount of fluid may still drain from the tiny access points. In this case, a small absorbent dressing is usually sufficient. Often, the areas are already largely dry by this point.
After showering, you put on your compression garment or compression stockings.
And then? Keep moving.
You do not need to stay in bed. Light everyday activities, working from home and going for walks are often possible and actively encouraged, provided you feel well. For many patients, even a relaxed walk with the dog is perfectly manageable.
Of course, your body sets the pace.
As a rule, the doctor or one of our Lipo Assistants will contact you the day after the procedure. How are you feeling? Did you sleep well? Do you have any questions?
You will also receive detailed information from us about the period after your operation.
And if anything is still unclear, write to us. Dr Linde and his team are available via WhatsApp after your liposuction. You can send us questions as they arise and will usually receive a reply within a short time.
We do not want you sitting at home after your operation wondering: Is this normal? Should I be worried?
Ask us. That is what we are here for.
Of course, the treated areas will still be swollen on the first day. Bruising and the body's natural healing reactions are part of the process.
And yet, we repeatedly experience a very special moment – the first look in the mirror.
Despite the swelling, the change in contour is almost always already clearly visible. Some patients cry with joy at this moment because they suddenly see their body in a shape they have wished for for many years.
These are special moments for us too.
As exciting as the first changes may be, this is when the actual healing process begins.
Swelling, firmness, feelings of tightness and temporary unevenness can all be part of the healing process. Depending on your skin quality and individual recovery, we may begin our personalised aftercare just a few days after liposuction.
This can include lymphatic drainage, deep oscillation therapy and Endermologie. These treatments support regeneration, help relieve discomfort and accompany the tissue as it recovers and adapts.
Compression also gives many patients a comfortable feeling of support and stability during this phase and can help limit postoperative swelling. How long you need to wear compression garments is determined individually according to the treated area and your healing progress.
Around four weeks after liposuction, we carry out an initial follow-up assessment, which, depending on the situation, may also be performed using photographs you send us.
However, you do not have to wait four weeks if you are unsure about anything. If you would like to see us or if something needs to be checked, you can arrange a follow-up appointment with us at any time – at no additional cost.
Despite the understandable impatience, there is one point on which we are consistent:
We only assess the final result after approximately six months.
This is because the skin, subcutaneous tissue and surrounding tissue all need time. Swelling needs to subside completely, areas of firmness need to soften and the skin needs to adapt to the new body shape. Something that still looks uneven after four weeks can look completely different several months later.
That is why we repeatedly tell our patients: enjoy the changes – but give your body the time it needs.
For us, liposuction is not simply a three-hour procedure. It is a process we go through together with you: from your first consultation to the day of your operation, through aftercare and finally to the moment when healing is complete and you can see your final result.
And throughout this process, there is one thing we want you to know:
You are not alone.
We understand that aesthetic treatment needs to be carefully considered. We are therefore happy to take the time to answer all your questions during a free, no-obligation initial consultation. Arrange your consultation appointment today at one of our two LIPOCLINICs.
If you would like a brief online preliminary clarification before your consultation, you can also contact us by e-mail.
No matter how you want to reach us – we look forward to hearing/reading from you!
